Getting Relationship Counseling

By rlhutton On August 18, 2010 Under Uncategorized

It seems like everyone is having relationship problems these days.   For most people – especially couples who genuinely love and care about one another – it can be heartbreaking to see a relationship slipping away.

If you find yourself in this situation you may have thought about or may be considering using a relationship counselor.   This typically sounds good on the surface but many people seem to be paused or perplexed by the idea.  They do not know what is involved, how to locate the right counselor, what the fees are, and what to expect in terms of outcome.

Having someone who can empathize with both parties and is an impartial observer can seem like valuable contributions.  However, many couples – especially Men – are uncomfortable sharing intimate feelings with a stranger regardless of their skills or training.  So, the perennial questions are these:  When should a professional relationship counselor be brought into a relationship struggle; what should be the ground rules for the engagement of this service; how should the conversations or sessions be governed; and what are the expectations that the parties might expect.

The experts tell us that Relationship Counseling is clearly advisable when the parties are truly in love, cannot make headway in resolving their difficulties, and have exhausted most of their friends and family in terms of sound posts.   This is where an impartial third-party can be of significant value.  The reason for this is not just experience of the professional but their perspective in terms of recognizing and sharing a whole host of concepts about relationships that apply universally but that the couple may be unaware of.   These are the things that most people do not see in their own relationship.  Getting an expert opinion on the relationship and how it is truly progressing – or why it is not – can be extremely beneficial for most couples. This is extremely valuable if you are trying to get your ex back.

The costs of this kind of counseling and whether it is a good value are concepts that greatly exceed the capabilities of this article.   However, most of these counseling sessions do not last for months – rather weeks – and most people who have used them agree that the investment was probably worth it.

Relationship Counselors typically analyze the couple and their interaction not unlike the functioning of a business with acknowledge responsibilities and regular communications.   Most of them will also begin to get the couple to take responsibility for all their actions in the relationship and to rely heavily on communication as the vehicle for dialogue rather than a venting mechanism. This is often the key to get ex back.

The more advanced relationship scenarios – for severely damaged and suffering couples – involve structured mediation and rule-setting as initial steps to get things off dead center.  Regardless of the outcome, relationship counseling can be of great value in mending a broken duet.  It is also a possible route if you are trying to get ex back.
