An Insight Look At The Meaning Of Wedding Favors

Wedding favors symbolize the thankfulness of the bride and groom for those who took a special part in making their wedding ceremony a success. These gifts are given to the bridesmaids, the maid of honor, the best man as well as the relatives and close friends of the married couple. Besides being a token of gratitude, favors may serve to liven up the gathering after the wedding and they may also serve as mementos or keepsakes for everyone to remember that day by.

Originally, wedding favors were candies placed in expensive tin boxes and could only be afforded by the rich. Today many different kinds of favors have become popular. While we still have the traditional candies in boxes, very often married people give away an assortment of objects as their gifts of appreciation to their guests. Custom photographs of the bridal entourage and close relatives are taken for this purpose sometimes days ahead of the wedding. This is to give the couple the time to frame and sign all the photographs and include them in the wedding favors on the wedding day itself.

Other excellent memorabilia are silver jewelry items, often combined with birthstones or beautiful crystals. Sets of earrings and necklaces with pendants engraved with the receiver’s name are also great favorites to give away. Engraved rings, likewise, are popular. Sometimes necklaces and bracelets of sparkling crystals are distributed to the bridesmaids. Silver cufflinks, likewise engraved with names are similarly given to the best man.

Wedding favors need not even be made of silver and birth stones. Practically anything that can be used, or consumes or kept as memorabilia is eligible for giving. Some of the more frequent gifts are scented soaps, engraved match boxes for gentlement, compact mirrors for ladies, votive and tea light holders, personalized cutlery, personalized handkerchiefs, mint candy tins, mugs and glasses. There is practically no limit to the choices.

Wedding favors may either be bought at specialty shops that specialize in jewelry or cosmetics or dinner ware. There are, additionally, outfits that specialize in wedding favors. In either case, the couple may choose from pre-existing collections which they can view at the website of the outfit or in the real, live store. In case, nothing satisfies the client, most of these businesses are willing to make something along the lines of the client’s preferences.

On the other hand, it is quite possible to make these wedding gifts at home if someone has the time to do it.  The easiest gifts to make will be candy boxes made of cardboard. There are many templates for making all shapes of boxes on the internet. Some of them are free under certain conditions.

All you need do is to print out an image of the template plus instructions on how to create a box from that template. The material for the box will depend on the shape of the box. Most boxes can be made of cartolina paper and if you choose paper with the appropriate design, your box will be textured. When you are done with the box, some candy and some lace to tie it up is all you need to complete the wedding favors.
